L'origine du thé : une histoire fascinante

The Origin of Tea: A Fascinating Story

Tea is much more than just a drink: it's an ancient tradition that spans cultures and eras. But do you really know where tea comes from and how it became one of the most consumed beverages in the world?

A Chinese Legend

The history of tea dates back over 5,000 years, in China.
Legend has it that Emperor Shen Nong, a great botany enthusiast, was boiling water under a tree when a leaf fell into his container. Intrigued by the aroma, he tasted this natural infusion... and tea was born!

A Journey Around the World

For centuries, tea remained a Chinese treasure, consumed mainly by the nobility and monks.
It then spread throughout Asia, particularly to Japan thanks to Buddhist monks, who made it a key element of their meditation ritual.

In the 16th century, European merchants, fascinated by this exotic drink, began to import it to the West.
This is how tea became a true institution in England, giving birth to the famous "Tea Time."

The Different Types of Tea

Today, tea is cultivated in several regions of the world, particularly in China, India, Sri Lanka, and Japan. There are several varieties, the best known of which are:
Green tea: unoxidized, it is rich in antioxidants and highly valued for its health benefits.
Black tea: fuller-bodied and fermented, it is often consumed with milk, especially in England.
White tea: the most delicate, it is minimally processed and offers a sweet and floral flavor.
Oolong tea: halfway between green tea and black tea, it has a complex and refined flavor.
