You've bought an exceptional tea, but you find that its taste doesn't stand out as it should? Tea preparation is an art that requires a few essential steps to reveal all its flavors. Here are our tips for a perfect brew!
1. Choose quality water
Water accounts for over 95% of your tea, so it's essential to choose good water. Water that is too hard or chlorinated can alter the taste. Opt for filtered or low-mineralized water for optimal infusion.
2. Respect the brewing temperature
Each type of tea has an ideal brewing temperature. Water that is too hot can burn the leaves and make the tea bitter, while water that is too cool may not release all the aromas. Here's a simple guide:
• Green tea : 70-80°C
• White tea : 75-85°C
• Oolong tea : 80-90°C
• Black tea : 90-95°C
• Pu-erh tea : 95-100°C
Tip: If you don't have a thermometer, let your boiled water rest for a few minutes before brewing your tea.
3. Adjust brewing time
Over-steeped, your tea risks being bitter. Not enough, it will lack flavor. Here are the recommended times:
• Green tea : 2 to 3 min
• White tea : 4 to 5 min
• Oolong tea : 4 to 7 min
• Black tea : 3 to 5 min
• Pu-erh tea : 4 to 5 min
Tip: Taste your tea halfway through to adjust to your preferences.
4. Dosage: not too much, not too little
The right dosage is essential for a balanced tea. Generally, use 1 teaspoon (2-3g) of tea per cup (about 250 ml of water). For larger teas (like some white teas), you may need to adjust slightly.
5. Infuser without squeezing
If you use a tea ball or sachet, avoid squeezing the leaves after brewing. This can release too many tannins and make your tea bitter.
